Benjamin Ahn, PhD, joins Department of Engineering Education

Dr. Benjamin Ahn

We are excited to announce that Dr. Benjamin Ahn has joined our faculty as an Associate Professor of Engineering Education after working at Iowa State University for a number of years. His research centers on developing engineering students’ knowledge, skills, and attitudes through high-quality engineering education experiences. Dr. Ahn applies his training in both engineering education and aerospace engineering to (1) examine the onboarding process for new engineers in the workplace (workforce development) and identify the professional skills required for the next generations of engineers (professional skill development); (2) investigate mentoring practices to support the inquiry, investigation, and discovery of diverse engineering students in research settings (mentoring); and (3) explore technologies and pedagogies that enhance students’ acquisition of technical knowledge and problem-solving skills (teaching mechanisms). Additional information can be found at Dr. Ahn’s lab website.

We sat down with Dr. Ahn to find out some quick, fun facts!

What are you most excited about regarding starting at Ohio State? What I am most excited about are the myriad opportunities to collaborate with faculty and graduate students to conduct engineering education research.

What are your hobbies? Listening to music or audiobooks.

What is a fun fact about you? Having lived in Australia and New Zealand, I am a fan of rugby and cricket.

Monique Ross, PhD, joins Department of Engineering Education

Dr. Monique Ross

We are excited to announce that Monique Ross, PhD, has joined our faculty as an Associate Professor of Engineering Education after working at Florida International University for a number of years. Her research interests include broadening participation in computing through the exploration of: 1) race, gender, and identity in the academy and industry; 2) discipline-based education research in order to inform pedagogical practices that garner interest and retain women and minorities in computer-related engineering fields. She is a prestigious National Science Foundation CAREER award winner and has secured multiple other grants. To read about her current and legacy projects, and to learn about her research group, LEARN-CS, visit her website.
