Students tackle real-world problems with capstone projects

Posted:

As part of The Ohio State University College of Engineering's focus on experiential learning, all engineering undergraduates must spend one to two semesters tackling a real-world problem before graduation. Each spring, students present these innovative solutions at the Engineering Capstone Design Showcase.

On April 23, 2021, more than 100 student teams presented their projects virtually via online “exhibit booths” during live and pre-recorded sessions. Students shared poster displays, multimedia demonstrations and prototypes for the public to view.

This year's capstone projects included: an automated robotic aircraft inspection system; an app that promotes cultural awareness among health professionals; upcycling discarded plastics in the production of concrete; crosswalk solutions to improve pedestrian safety on campus; a multifaceted system to help boost state park donations; a safer route design for bikes and e-scooters on campus; and a less invasive process for intravascular catheter removal.
