About KEEN

KEEN Launch
The KEEN Launch Party took place on March 6, 2018 to celebrate the Ohio State and KEEN Partnership.

The Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN)

Founded in 2005, KEEN is a nationwide partnership of more than 30 undergraduate engineering programs that are committed to the mission of graduating engineers with an entrepreneurial mindset so they can create personal, economic, and societal value through a lifetime of meaningful work. KEEN and its partners promote entrepreneurially minded learning (EML) through curriculum development, collaborative research, and national conferences and events.

KEEN at The Ohio State University

The Ohio State University became a KEEN partner in May 2017, creating an opportunity for the University to connect with other engineering programs in the Network, to leverage resources, engage in collaborative projects, and identify other synergies. Being a Network partner also allows Ohio State to advance current practices in undergraduate engineering education, to engage in engineering education scholarship, and to explore and assess EML among thousands of engineering students.

Why is the Entrepreneurial Mindset (EM) important for engineers?

When an entrepreneurial mindset (EM) is combined with engineering skills, students are equipped to create extraordinary value for others.

An entrepreneurial mindset is not a fad or a trend. It’s a time-honored attribute cultivated by those committed to human flourishing and progress. That’s why KEEN is focused on the entrepreneurial mindset in engineering education.

You can embed EM outcomes in your curriculum, in student immersive experiences, and within a whole variety of co-curricular or extra-curricular programs. By making the decision to include a focus on engineering entrepreneurial mindset, your students will begin to recognize opportunities, adapt to a rapidly changing world, and develop solutions for society’s challenges. You can unleash the potential of your students, empowering them to be value creators.

“It is an extraordinary honor for the Department of Engineering Education and The College of Engineering at The Ohio State University to be invited to join KEEN. We look forward to infusing an entrepreneurial mindset into the thousands of young engineers whom we teach each year. The opportunity to build connections with, and learn from, the other KEEN partners will prepare our students to create value and change the world they are entering."
