Seminar Series | The Engaged Engineer: A Healthy Disposition for the 21st Century

Abstract

For almost 30 years Paul has been running global engineering firms and believes the key to success in any organization is the development of an effective culture with a social conscience. Entrepreneurial and Small/Medium sized Enterprises (SME's) employ somewhere between 60% and 70% of people around the world and need freshly minted graduates to hit the ground running.

Professional skills are not 'soft', they are very hard indeed and typically not developed enough during undergraduate years. Paul will share his experience of growing small engineering companies and how, maybe, those lessons could inform modern approaches to skills development. In today’s real-time connected world, very little can be achieved without collaboration and courage, so it is imperative that students are regularly exposed to authentic experiences that develop and hone these skills.
