Dr. Rachel Louis Kajfez, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering Education, researches the intersection between identity and motivation in a variety of educational contexts within engineering. In this seminar, she will present on three different studies that use self-determination theory and future possible theory as the lenses for exploring these complex, and often interconnected, constructs. One study focuses on undergraduates’ exploration of entrepreneurial minded learning, one on graduate teaching assistants’ experiences in first-year engineering, and one on faculty who are engaging in information learning experiences with the public. She will share her views on these concepts, findings from the work, and plans for the future.
